Port St. Lucie Man Arrested for Impersonating Police Officer

William Dennis Milstead, 64, of Port St. Lucie, was arrested by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) on November 13, 2024, for falsely impersonating a police officer and attempting to lease a residential property using fraudulent credentials.

FDLE launched an investigation after a local real estate agency reported Milstead claiming to be an undercover FDLE agent. He stated that he was “off-grid” and could not undergo a background check, presenting a fake letter in an effort to secure the lease.

Milstead, who has a criminal history with 13 prior felony arrests, including previous charges for impersonating a police officer in 2002 and 2016, was booked into the Saint Lucie County Jail. The case will be prosecuted by the Office of the State Attorney, 19th Judicial Circuit. FDLE Orlando is continuing the investigation with assistance from the Florida Highway Patrol.
