Daniel Diaz Garcia, 35, of Jacksonville, has pleaded guilty to charges of credit card fraud and theft of mail, announced United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg on November 21, 2024. Garcia faces up to 10 years in federal prison for the credit card fraud charge, up to 5 years for mail theft, and payment of restitution to his victims. A sentencing date has not yet been set.
According to court documents, Garcia began working as a highway contract carrier delivering First Class mail in Jacksonville in September 2023. During his employment, he stole mail, opened it, and removed items, including credit cards. An investigation by the U.S. Postal Service – Office of Inspector General (USPS-OIG) revealed that Garcia stole credit cards from multiple victims on his mail route. Surveillance footage captured Garcia using the stolen cards to make purchases exceeding $1,000. During questioning, law enforcement officers also found another stolen credit card in Garcia’s wallet.
Garcia was arrested on July 29, 2024. The case was investigated by the USPS-OIG and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kevin C. Frein.
