A 63-year-old man with a decades-long criminal history has been sentenced to eight years in prison following his arrest during a Collier County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) operation targeting open-air drug markets in Immokalee earlier this year.
John Wesley Tillman was apprehended in January as part of “Operation Fresh Air,” an initiative aimed at dismantling street-level narcotics trafficking in an area known for open drug transactions. Tillman was one of 13 individuals arrested during the operation.
During the investigation, Tillman sold crack cocaine to an undercover CCSO detective. He was later found guilty by a jury on charges of cocaine distribution within 1,000 feet of a place of worship and possession of cocaine. On Thursday, Collier County Circuit Judge John McGowan sentenced Tillman to eight years in state prison.
Tillman, a convicted felon, has a criminal history in Collier County spanning back to 1980, with multiple arrests for narcotics-related offenses.
“Thanks to the efforts of our hardworking Vice and Narcotics Bureau detectives, a career drug dealer will spend a long time in prison where he can’t peddle his poison,” said Sheriff Kevin Rambosk in a statement.
