Man Convicted of Armed Robbery at Jacksonville Adult Store, Faces 30 Years to Life in Prison

State Attorney Melissa Nelson announced that a Duval County jury found Matthew Gilchrist guilty of Armed Robbery. As a Prison Release Reoffender and Habitual Violent Felony Offender, Gilchrist faces a minimum mandatory sentence of 30 years, up to life, in Florida State Prison. Sentencing will be scheduled by the Honorable Mark Borello.

The crime took place on December 21, 2020, when Gilchrist, dressed in a grey-and-white tracksuit, white sneakers, and a blue medical mask, entered a University Boulevard adult novelty store. He stole an item, then threatened the cashier with a handgun, demanding money before fleeing in a gray sedan. A week later, Gilchrist attempted a similar robbery at another store but was caught after fleeing the scene. His cellphone and the car, owned by his fiancé, were recovered, with surveillance footage confirming his involvement.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Corie Posey and Paige West.
