On Friday, December 27, 2024, a tragic shooting near the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way and Avenue K claimed the life of a young woman, 33-year-old Asiya La’Trece Roberts-Husband, leaving the community in mourning.
Around 6:22 p.m., Asiya was traveling in a white transport van with her employer when an unknown suspect in a 4-door sedan opened fire on the vehicle. Asiya was fatally struck, and her employer sustained injuries but is currently recovering after receiving medical treatment.
The Haines City Police Department is actively investigating the incident and appealing to the public for information. Authorities are urging anyone with knowledge of the shooting to come forward to help bring justice to Asiya’s family and hold the perpetrator accountable.
To encourage tips, the department has announced a combined reward of $7,500, with $5,000 offered by Heartland Crime Stoppers and an additional $2,500 from the police department. The investigation remains ongoing.
