Two Suspects Arrested for Stealing Marine Equipment in Stolen Vehicle in Charlotte County

Two suspects were arrested on January 8, 2025, after being caught in the act of stealing marine equipment from a storage facility in Charlotte County, Florida. The suspects, identified as Michel Suarez Legon (46) and Yoenys Trujillo Ruiz (35), were apprehended by the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office after a coordinated effort with neighboring law enforcement agencies.

Detectives were alerted by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office about a stolen vehicle entering the county, a white 2005 Ford E350 that had been linked to burglary cases in multiple counties, including Hillsborough, Lee, Collier, and Charlotte. The vehicle, which had a stolen Maryland plate attached, was spotted by detectives heading west on Bermont Road. It was tracked to PG 17 Storage on Duncan Road, where the suspects were seen removing GPS units from boats.

A perimeter was set up while additional deputies arrived, and a felony traffic stop was initiated when the stolen vehicle was observed attempting to exit the lot. Both suspects were taken into custody without incident.

Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered three stolen GPS units, 3.2 grams of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and tools reported stolen from Hillsborough County. Additional items are being verified as stolen.

The suspects were charged with several offenses related to crimes in Charlotte County, including burglary, grand theft, drug possession, and driving with a revoked license. Their charges do not yet account for potential crimes in the other involved counties.

“This is a perfect example of how law enforcement sharing information and working together adds up to safer communities. Because of the efforts of Hillsborough, Lee, Collier, and YOUR Charlotte County Sheriff’s Offices, these criminals were caught in the act and arrested. My team did an excellent job strategizing, observing, and securing the suspects without incident. Maybe other criminals watching will finally learn not to try their nonsense in Southwest Florida,” said Sheriff Bill Prummell
