Teen Arrested for Florida City Shooting That Killed 9-Year-Old Boy

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO) Homicide Bureau has arrested 19-year-old Monreal Savontae Jackson Jr. in connection with the fatal shooting of 9-year-old Antavious Scott in Florida City on November 16, 2024.

Florida City Police Department (FCPD) officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert and a simultaneous 9-1-1 call in the area of 865 W. Lucy Street. Upon arrival, officers found Scott suffering from a gunshot wound to his back. First responders performed life-saving measures, and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue airlifted the child to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital in critical condition. Despite their efforts, Scott succumbed to his injuries.

Through surveillance footage and cellphone data, investigators were able to identify and locate Jackson. He was arrested on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, and charged with murder.

According to the arrest report, Scott had been outside an apartment complex with friends when two males wearing dark clothing opened fire on the group, striking the boy.

Miami-Dade County Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz expressed gratitude to her deputies, the FCPD, and the community for their efforts in solving the case. “This case weighed heavily on all of us as Antavious was only 9 years old, but today, justice has prevailed,” she said. “I pray this brings the family some closure and relief, and we will continue to hold the Scott family in our prayers.”
