JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville husband and wife have been arrested after investigators say they sold dozens of stolen gold coins worth more than $240,000 that had been taken from a shipping company.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, 50-year-old Victor Lagrane Owens and 53-year-old Jennifer Meria Owens were arrested in connection with the theft and sale of 34 gold coins.
Investigators allege Victor Owens stole the coins while working at a shipping company. Authorities say he and Jennifer Owens then sold the stolen coins to multiple buyers.
Victor Owens was arrested on June 24 and charged with grand theft, false verification of ownership on a pawn broker transaction form and dealing in stolen property.
His bond was set at $105,000.
Jennifer Owens was arrested on July 8 and charged with dealing in stolen property and false verification of ownership on a pawn broker transaction form.
Her bond was set at $300,000.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the investigation determined the stolen gold coins had a combined value exceeding $240,000.
No additional details about the shipping company or the recovery of the coins have been released.
