Florida Man Sentenced to 20 Years for Human Trafficking and Manslaughter

Daniel Adam Rhodes, 44, was sentenced on January 13, 2025, to 20 years in state prison after pleading guilty to two counts of human trafficking, one involving great bodily harm, permanent disability, or disfigurement, and manslaughter. Rhodes is required to register as a sex offender for life.

The charges stem from his arrest by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) on December 13, 2022, in Fort Pierce. Rhodes was accused of running a multi-year human trafficking operation out of hotels and motels along Florida’s Treasure Coast. He advertised women for commercial sex online and coerced his victims into prostitution by supplying them with drugs.

FDLE’s investigation revealed Rhodes injected a 27-year-old sex trafficking victim with a fatal dose of fentanyl and cocaine in a Port St. Lucie motel room.

FDLE Commissioner Mark Glass stated, “There is no place for human traffickers within our state. FDLE agents work hard to remove these criminals who commit such heinous acts and endanger our communities. Together with the Attorney General’s Office of Statewide Prosecution, we continue the fight to stop traffickers and rescue victims before it’s too late. Florida is a law and order state, and we will make sure these dangerous criminals are put away and pay for their crimes.”

The Attorney General’s Office of Statewide Prosecution handled the case. Florida residents can access the state’s sex offender registry via the FDLE mobile app or the Sexual Offenders and Predators Search website.
