On the night of Wednesday, January 29, Alachua County K9 Deputy M. Griffeth conducted a traffic stop on a black Jeep utility vehicle driven by Earl James Okine for failing to stop at a stop sign. During the stop, probable cause was established to search the vehicle, leading to the discovery of 1.9 grams of crystalized methamphetamine, a small amount of marijuana, and a Smith and Wesson handgun loaded with an extended magazine containing several rounds of ammunition.
Okine, who played for the Florida Gators from 2008 to 2012 and later went on to play in both the NFL and arena football, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of a firearm while in the commission of a felony, and possession of marijuana less than 20 grams.
