Collier County Man Faces 50 Counts of Child Pornography

A 51-year-old Immokalee man faces 50 counts of possession of child pornography after detectives found sexually explicit videos of children as young as infants on his cell phone.

James Carter was arrested on Wednesday by detectives with the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the Southwest Florida INTERCEPT Task Force and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Carter was arrested at the Collier County jail where he was already in custody on unrelated charges.

Cyber tips from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children led detectives to Carter, whose Instagram and Snapchat accounts had been flagged due to suspected child sex abuse material images.

Through their investigation, detectives obtained a search warrant for Carter’s cell phone. They discovered over 1,000 child sex abuse material files on his phone, including 50 videos depicting children from infancy to approximately 12 years old engaged in lewd behavior or being victimized by adults. The search also uncovered chats referencing child pornography.

“The INTERCEPT Task Force and its partners are committed to investigating crimes that exploit our most vulnerable citizens – our children, identifying suspects and making arrests,” said Sheriff Kevin Rambosk.

The investigation continues.
