A Baker County Detention Center corrections sergeant has been arrested following allegations that he struck a handcuffed inmate without cause.
On February 10, 2025, an inmate reported to jail administrators that he had been assaulted by a Baker County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) corrections sergeant several days earlier. The sergeant was placed on administrative leave pending an internal and criminal investigation.
The BCSO Detective Division reviewed the evidence and determined that the inmate had been struck in the head while restrained. A warrant was obtained for the arrest of Charles Wesley Wright, who was taken into custody on February 18, 2025, and charged with battery.
Following his arrest, Wright was immediately terminated. Sheriff Rhoden condemned the incident, stating, “The safety of our inmates is our responsibility, and it is paramount. Any allegations of abuse involving our staff will be fully investigated and, like this case, if it is determined that our staff acted outside the scope of our policies or the law, they will be dealt with accordingly.”
