Manhunt Underway in Haines City After U-Haul Driver Rams Patrol Car, Flees Scene

Haines City Police are searching for 50-year-old Joshua Scott Johnson after he allegedly rammed a police cruiser with a U-Haul truck and fled the scene following a hit-and-run incident on Saturday, February 22, 2025.

At approximately 9:09 PM, officers responded to a hit-and-run report near U.S. Highway 27 and Bates Road. The victim reported that Johnson, driving a U-Haul box truck, struck her BMW, then pushed her vehicle forward before fleeing the scene.

Officer Sean Bruner located the U-Haul attempting to bypass traffic in a grass median. When Officer Bruner activated his emergency lights, Johnson accelerated, leading to a pursuit into the Oakland Community.

At the intersection of 10th Street North and Avenue N, Johnson intentionally rammed Officer Bruner’s patrol vehicle, disabling it and forcing it off the road. Johnson continued to flee, eventually crashing at the intersection of 12th Street North and Avenue N. He then fled on foot.

Inside the abandoned U-Haul, officers found Johnson’s wallet containing identification and bank cards, along with a glass pipe with white residue. The victim of the initial hit-and-run also captured a photo of Johnson after he struck her vehicle.

Johnson is now wanted on three counts of Hit and Run, Aggravated Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer, Driving While License Suspended/Revoked, Fleeing and Eluding, Possession of Methamphetamine, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Anyone with knowledge of Johnson’s whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Haines City Police Department at 863-421-3636 or submit an anonymous tip to Heartland Crime Stoppers at 888-400-8477 or heartlandcrimestoppers.com.
