Man Convicted of Kidnapping and Armed Burglary in Duval County

Ty’quez Cobb has been found guilty by a Duval County jury on multiple charges, including armed burglary, kidnapping with a firearm, and aggravated fleeing or eluding a law enforcement officer, State Attorney Melissa Nelson announced.

The verdict also included convictions for aggravated battery, two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of false imprisonment, and child neglect. Cobb faces up to life in Florida State Prison. Sentencing will be determined by Judge Mark Borello at a later date.

The case stemmed from an incident on August 11, 2023, when Cobb threatened and assaulted a victim at her Harts Road apartment. He pistol-whipped her, kicked her, and threatened a juvenile witness. Cobb then kidnapped the victim and their one-year-old child, leading to a “BOLO” alert.

St. Johns County Sheriff’s deputies initiated a traffic stop, which escalated into a high-speed chase through St. Johns and Duval counties, reaching speeds of up to 140 mph. The pursuit ended at Baymeadows Road and Southside Boulevard, where Cobb was apprehended after a brief foot chase.

The victim and child were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, Clay County Sheriff’s Office, and St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant State Attorneys Leah Owens and Shaina Ruth prosecuted the case.
