Scott Alexander Sanders, 52, of Dothan, Alabama, has been arrested for grand theft after stealing more than $350,000 from a Florida retiree’s construction payments.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) initiated an investigation in March 2024 after receiving information that Sanders, owner of Tatum and Associates, Inc., a Marianna-based custom home builder and remodeling contractor, misappropriated over 75% of payments made for a new home construction.
The investigation revealed that Sanders stole $351,366.42 from the victim, who had hired him to build her new home. Sanders failed to complete the construction and ceased communication with the victim in December 2023.
Sanders was arrested on February 24, 2025, and booked into the Bay County Jail. The Office of the State Attorney, 14th Judicial Circuit, will prosecute the case.
The FDLE Panama City Field Office conducted the investigation, with assistance from the Jackson County and Bay County Sheriff’s Offices. The investigation remains active.
