Sex Offender Arrested in St. Lucie County for Attempting to Meet Minor

Byron S. McCormick, 54, was arrested on March 19, 2025, by the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office after traveling from Broward County with the intent to engage in sexual activity with a 13-year-old female.

McCormick arrived in St. Lucie County on the evening of March 18, 2025, and was met by an adult female detective instead of the minor he expected.

Further investigation revealed that McCormick, who is on federal probation, was a transient and had failed to register with his probation officer. He was also found to be in possession of two cellular phones, a violation of his probation which prohibits internet-capable devices.

McCormick was arrested and charged with Sex Offender Violation – Failure to Register Phone Number Changes. He is being held at the St. Lucie County Jail without bond. The investigation remains ongoing.
