Arrisha Shambria Gibson, 32, of Avon Park has been arrested and charged as an accessory in a violent carjacking, kidnapping, and attempted murder that occurred on March 22, 2025.
Gibson and 29-year-old Joshua Yamir Torres were walking on Main Street in Avon Park when they were picked up by the victim, an acquaintance of Torres.
While the victim was driving south on SR 17, Torres assaulted him with a pistol, breaking his nose. Torres then forced the victim to pull over, and Gibson took over driving the car. Torres held the victim at gunpoint in the backseat.
Gibson drove to a secluded location near Basket Lake, where Torres attempted to execute the victim by shooting him in the head. When the pistol malfunctioned, the victim fought back.
During the struggle, Gibson provided Torres with a bottle to use as a weapon and also threw another bottle at the victim. The victim managed to escape into a nearby orange grove, while Torres and Gibson fled in the victim’s vehicle.
Gibson is charged with attempted felony murder, aggravated battery, kidnapping, armed carjacking, and false imprisonment. She is being held without bail at the Highlands County Jail.
