Man Charged with Murder in Connection to 2022 Apartment Shooting in Sanford

Thallas Jerome Inman Jr., 23, has been arrested in connection to the November 20, 2022, homicide of Isaiah Ezrah Diaz.

On November 20, 2022, at approximately 1:30 p.m., Sanford Police responded to a report of a shooting at the Hatteras Sound Apartments. Upon arrival, officers found a vehicle with gunshot damage and Isaiah Diaz, 18, deceased from multiple gunshot wounds. Two other victims were also found, one of whom was injured and transported to a hospital.

Investigators determined that multiple individuals with semi-automatic firearms approached the vehicle and opened fire on the occupants.

After an extensive investigation, probable cause was established implicating Inman as one of the gunmen involved in Diaz’s homicide.

On March 24, 2025, Sanford Investigators, in consultation with the State Attorney’s Office, obtained a warrant for Inman’s arrest on a charge of First Degree Premeditated Homicide Murder.

Inman was already in custody at the John E. Polk Correctional Facility on unrelated charges, including another Premeditated First Degree Murder case.

Sanford Police Chief Cecil Smith stated, “While we cannot bring Isaiah back to his family, we do hope that this arrest is a step towards healing for Isaiah’s family. Our Investigators have continued to work every lead on this case, determined that the perpetrators face justice. They will continue to do so in order to ensure all of those involved in taking Isaiah from his loved ones will be held accountable.”

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are seeking information on any remaining suspects. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Sanford Police Department or Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS (8477) or visit www.crimeline.org.
