Thomas Carpenter, 41, has been arrested on multiple drug charges, including methamphetamine trafficking, after a traffic stop revealed drugs and paraphernalia in his vehicle, which also contained two small children.
On Wednesday, March 26, 2025, Putnam County Deputy Ferguson stopped Carpenter for traffic violations. During the stop, the passenger admitted to smoking marijuana with Carpenter in the vehicle. Neither individual possessed a medical marijuana card.
Carpenter appeared to be falling asleep during questioning. A search of the vehicle yielded drug paraphernalia, marijuana, and a substance suspected to be methamphetamine. Upon arrival at the Putnam County Jail, a search of Carpenter revealed 11 small bags containing a crystal-like substance hidden in his underwear. During the arrest, Carpenter told the deputy that “there’s nothing wrong with drugs.”
The substances from both the vehicle and Carpenter’s person tested positive for methamphetamine, with a combined weight of approximately 322.1 grams.
Carpenter was charged with:
- Amphetamine trafficking or methamphetamine 14 grams or over
- Possession of marijuana with intent to sell or deliver
- Two counts of possession of a controlled substance without a prescription
- Smuggling contraband into a county detention facility
- Three counts of drug paraphernalia
Carpenter, who was released from state prison in December 2024 after serving a three-year sentence, was also found to be in violation of his parole. He is being held without bond.
Due to the presence of children in the vehicle, a report was filed with the Department of Children and Families. The passenger was released at the scene.
