Monticello Man Arrested for Murder in 2024 Shooting

Roberto Luis Rodrigues, 34, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder and tampering with evidence in connection with a shooting that occurred in Monticello on April 13, 2024. The Monticello Police Department (MPD) and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) announced the arrest, with assistance from the Lafayette County and Jefferson County sheriff’s offices.

The investigation began after MPD requested FDLE’s support in a death investigation following the discovery of the victim, Lance Nealy, Sr., who had died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Through investigative work and legal processes, Rodrigues was identified as the suspect, and an arrest warrant was issued on April 10, 2025.

On April 11, 2025, Rodrigues was apprehended by the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office during a traffic stop. He was subsequently booked into the Lafayette County Jail without bond.

The Office of the State Attorney for the Second Judicial Circuit will prosecute the case. The joint investigation by MPD and FDLE is ongoing and remains active.
