A swift multi-agency response on Thursday, April 17, brought an end to an active shooting incident on the Florida State University (FSU) campus in under five minutes. Despite the rapid response from the FSU Police Department and the Tallahassee Police Department (TPD), the suspect, identified as Phoenix Ikner, injured eight people.
Today, April 18, 2025, the Tallahassee Police Department released a timeline of the events:

- Approximately 11:00 a.m. – Suspect 20-year-old Phoenix Ikner arrives at an FSU parking garage and remains in the vicinity, moving in and out of a vehicle for about an hour.
- 11:51 a.m. – Ikner leaves the parking garage.
- 11:56 – 11:57 a.m. – The first shot is fired. Ikner proceeds to walk in and out of buildings and green spaces on campus, discharging a handgun.
- 11:58 a.m. – Multiple 911 calls are received, reporting an active male shooter on campus, coinciding with the immediate police response from nearby officers.
- 12:00 p.m. – The suspect, Phoenix Ikner, is shot by responding officers and taken into custody.
Chief Lawrence Revell of the Tallahassee Police Department praised the collaborative effort of all responding agencies, stating, “What we saw on April 17 was an extraordinary example of teamwork and professionalism in the face of a horrific event. From the moment the call came in, agencies across our region came together seamlessly, sharing information and deploying resources with public safety the top priority. This kind of response doesn’t happen by accident; it’s the result of training, partnerships and a shared commitment to protecting our community.”
