A 43-year-old man was arrested on Sunday, April 20, 2025, after interfering with news media covering an officer-involved shooting near the Annie Mattox Recreation Center.
While Lake City Police Department officers were actively managing the crime scene, several news crews were lawfully filming from outside the established perimeter. As a camera crew was packing their equipment, a man, later identified as 43-year-old Adam Lee Dicks, crossed the street and aggressively approached them. He reportedly yelled profanities and demanded their tapes and recordings.
An officer witnessed Mr. Dicks acting hostilely, confronting a media member face-to-face, and continuing to demand footage. Mr. Dicks allegedly took a fighting stance and threatened the crew, causing them to fear for their safety and escalating the disturbance.
The officer intervened, issuing multiple commands for Mr. Dicks to leave the area. He refused all lawful orders and continued his aggressive behavior. After repeated warnings, Mr. Dicks was informed he would be arrested for non-compliance.
During the attempted detention, Mr. Dicks resisted by pulling away. Following a brief struggle, the officer successfully placed him into custody without further incident. Mr. Dicks sustained a minor scratch to his face during the arrest and was evaluated at the scene before being transported to the Columbia County Jail.
Lake City Police Chief Gerald Butler stated, “While we respect the public’s right to film and the media’s role in covering events, we will not tolerate interference at active crime scenes, especially when it jeopardizes the safety of others or impedes our operations.”
