Clay County Fire Rescue responded to a home explosion on Sycamore Way Monday evening, resulting in the hospitalization of two adults and two children.
While the exact cause remains under investigation, preliminary indications suggest an apparent gas explosion. The State Fire Marshal is currently on scene and will be conducting a further investigation.
According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office incident report, an 84-year-old woman who was inside the Oakleaf Plantation home at the time of the explosion reported turning on a dryer in the garage and noted a “possible” gas smell prior to the incident. Neighbors reportedly assisted the family in escaping the residence.
