Man Fatally Shot by Orlando Police After Waving Simulated Gun in Public

The Orlando Police Department is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred on May 1, 2025, in the parking lot of an apartment complex at 4620 Cason Cove Drive.

At approximately 5:47 p.m., OPD received multiple 911 calls reporting a man with a gun in his hand inside a 7-Eleven store in the 4500 block of Conroy Road. Witnesses stated the suspect had been waving the firearm at individuals in the strip plaza parking lot. Surveillance video also captured the suspect holding the weapon inside a nearby dry cleaning business.

Responding officers located the suspect in the parking lot of the nearby apartment complex. Officers gave multiple verbal commands in both English and Spanish instructing the suspect to drop the weapon. When the suspect did not comply, officers fired. The suspect was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators recovered the weapon, which was determined to be a simulated firearm.

According to law enforcement, the suspect had a criminal history that included drug and traffic offenses, as well as prior charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon and possession of cocaine.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is leading the investigation.
