Human Remains Discovered in St. Johns River in Fleming Island

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) is investigating the discovery of human remains found in the St. Johns River off Highway 17 in Fleming Island.

On Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at approximately 5:07 P.M., CCSO received a 911 call from a local homeowner reporting skeletal remains at the bulkhead of their property along the St. Johns River.

CCSO Patrol units, detectives, and the dive team responded to the 3200 block of US17 near the Doctors Lake bridge and initiated their investigation. The team worked throughout the evening to gather evidence and identify relevant factors and continued their efforts in the area on Thursday morning.

The discovered remains will be sent to the medical examiner’s office to assist with the investigation and help determine the cause of death.
