Man Sentenced to 17 Years for Loaded Barrel Tavern Shooting in Bradenton

Derrell Scott, 54, has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for a 2024 shooting that injured two people inside the Loaded Barrel Tavern. On Wednesday, Scott pleaded no contest to two counts of second-degree attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He will also serve 10 years of probation following his prison term.

The incident occurred on July 26, 2024, at the Loaded Barrel Tavern located at 450 12th St W. Bradenton police officers responded to a report of gunfire and found a woman at the scene with a gunshot wound to her leg. A second victim, a man with a gunshot wound to the torso, had already been transported to a hospital.

Witnesses told investigators that an argument had taken place between Scott and the male victim prior to the shooting. Scott reportedly left the tavern, returned minutes later with a firearm, and opened fire. The female victim was struck as a bystander.

Descriptions from multiple witnesses, along with CCTV footage from city cameras, helped officers identify Scott as the suspect. Video footage showed Scott leaving the scene in a maroon SUV. Authorities later discovered he had fled the Bradenton area.

Scott was located three days later on July 29 in Osceola County. He was taken into custody with the assistance of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement in Fort Myers, the FDLE Orlando Fugitive Task Force, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Felony Squad, and the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team.
