The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) has arrested Angela Adams Suggs, 55, of Tallahassee, on multiple charges related to financial fraud during her tenure with the Florida Sports Foundation (FSF). At the time of her arrest, Suggs was serving as the vice president and director of athletics at Florida A&M University (FAMU). She previously held the position of president and CEO of the FSF.
The investigation began in November 2024 after FDLE received a criminal referral from the Florida Department of Commerce’s Inspector General following an audit of Suggs’ FSF-issued credit card transactions and travel reimbursements. The FSF operates as a direct-support organization under the Florida Department of Commerce.
According to investigators, Suggs misused her business credit card to make wire transfers, cash withdrawals, and personal purchases at casinos while on business trips. The unauthorized transactions totaled over $24,000. Suggs then submitted falsified travel vouchers, categorizing the personal expenses as meals. When questioned, Suggs stated some of the charges were legitimate business meals while others were mistakenly charged to her business card. However, she failed to fully reimburse FSF for the personal expenditures.
Suggs voluntarily turned herself in and was booked into the Leon County Jail on a $13,500 bond. She faces one felony count each of grand theft and scheme to defraud, along with four misdemeanor counts of filing false claims on travel vouchers.
The Office of the State Attorney for the Second Judicial Circuit is prosecuting the case. FDLE’s investigation remains ongoing.
