A man who claimed he was robbed at gunpoint during a poker game has been arrested and charged with filing a false report, giving false information to law enforcement, and battery, after detectives determined his story was fabricated. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office received a robbery report on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, around 6:35 a.m. Marc Edwin Rodney, 36, of Winter Haven, told deputies that a known man had robbed him at gunpoint during a poker game.

Deputies quickly located and detained the man Rodney accused. However, the detained individual offered a different account, stating that Rodney had simply lost money gambling. He also claimed that Rodney had pushed him earlier in the evening when his losses were pointed out. The man was not found to be in possession of a firearm.

Detectives then located a witness who was also at the poker game. This witness corroborated that Rodney had lost money throughout the night and had even threatened to call law enforcement and falsely claim he was robbed.

When detectives interviewed Marc Edwin Rodney again, he provided conflicting details compared to his initial statements, and several other details he provided were proven false.

Marc Edwin Rodney was subsequently arrested and taken to the Polk County Jail. He faces charges of Providing a False Report of a Felony, Giving False Information to a Law Enforcement Officer, and Battery.
