Armed Woman Arrested After Home Disturbance in Lake City

A 62-year-old woman, Marnita Yolanda Demps, was arrested Monday evening after allegedly brandishing a handgun and making threats inside a residence on NE Lake Drive.

At approximately 6:20 P.M. on June 23, 2025, Lake City Police Department officers responded to a disturbance call at 1038 NE Lake Drive. Upon arrival, officers established a perimeter and made contact with a male subject outside who confirmed an armed female was inside the home.

As officers secured the scene, a female exited and was detained without incident, informing officers that another female remained inside. After repeated commands, the second female also exited with her hands raised.

Interviews with complainants revealed that Demps arrived at the residence in an agitated state, made threatening statements, and brandished a handgun. She reportedly entered the home without permission and confronted the occupants while armed, causing them to fear for their safety and feel unable to leave.

Demps was found in possession of a loaded handgun.

“The swift response and teamwork by our officers prevented this situation from escalating further,” stated Chief of Police Gerald Butler. “We take all threats of violence seriously and will continue to act decisively to ensure the safety of our residents.”

Demps was transported to the Columbia County Detention Facility without further incident.
