Man Convicted After Pointing Firearm at Victim in Clay County Hotel

A Clay County jury has found William Pickens guilty of Aggravated Assault, announced State Attorney Melissa Nelson. With the verdict, Pickens faces a maximum sentence of five years in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Steven Whittington will sentence Pickens at a later date.

The incident occurred on July 22, 2024, when the Clay County Sheriff’s Office responded to a Blanding Boulevard hotel regarding a man who had pointed a firearm at a victim. Officers located Pickens in the parking lot with hotel employees.

The victim informed officers that after she threw away a box and was speaking with other residents near a dumpster, Pickens approached her, pointed a gun, and continued to do so until she got into her car and drove away to wait for police at the front of the business. A witness corroborated the victim’s account of Pickens pointing the gun.

Officers recovered a firearm, a knife, and a baton from Pickens.

The case was investigated by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys David Gilbert and Jamie Cona.
