Jacksonville, FL — Nearly two years after a man was found strangled to death inside his Merrill Road home, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office detectives say they have solved the case.
Authorities announced the arrest of 41-year-old William Bell Jr., who has been charged with murder and four additional felony offenses tied to the November 30, 2023, killing of a 50-year-old man.
The case began when a citizen asked District 2 patrol officers to check on the victim. Responding officers discovered the man inside his home and determined he had been strangled. Detectives with JSO’s Homicide Unit launched a lengthy investigation, reviewing evidence and conducting multiple interviews before identifying Bell as the suspect.
Bell was taken into custody earlier this month and remains held in the Duval County Jail. He will turn 42 while behind bars.
Officials say the arrest provides long-awaited answers for the victim’s family. JSO noted that the department continues to work with the State Attorney’s Office to ensure Bell faces justice.
