Jacksonville, FL – On a busy Mother’s Day weekend at Huguenot Park, quick action by two Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office officers and a civilian saved the lives of three young children who were drowning.
Officers Crocker and Sweeney sprang into action after hearing cries for help. Officer Sweeney removed his gear and dove into the water to rescue a young boy, while Officer Crocker stayed on shore providing medical aid to a small boy and girl. Nearby rescue units arrived quickly and transported the children to the hospital, where all three made a full recovery.
Last month, Officers Crocker and Sweeney were awarded Lifesaving Medals in recognition of their heroism. Civilian Steve Insco, a regular at Huguenot Park, also played a critical role by helping rescue two of the children. He received a Certificate of Appreciation from JSO for his efforts.
JSO reminds the public that drowning risks exist year-round. Rip currents and rough surf can be deadly, and anyone unsure about water conditions should stay out of the water.
