Tampa, Florida – Armoni Tyree Moody, 24, of Davenport, was found guilty by a federal jury of carjacking, brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a violent crime, and possessing ammunition as a convicted felon, U.S. Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe announced. Moody faces a minimum of seven years and up to life in federal prison, with sentencing scheduled for January 21, 2026.
Evidence presented at trial showed that Moody arranged over social media to meet a victim under the pretense of purchasing marijuana. Once inside the victim’s car, Moody brandished a loaded handgun, pressed it to the victim’s head, and demanded two cellphones before forcing the victim out of the vehicle and driving away with the car.
A search warrant executed the following day recovered the victim’s belongings and the loaded firearm from Moody’s bedroom, while the stolen car was found nearby. Investigators also recovered text messages and social media videos showing Moody discussing and displaying the firearm prior to the robbery.
Moody had previously been convicted of armed robbery and was on probation at the time of the offense. As a convicted felon, he was prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition under federal law.
The case was investigated by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and the FBI, and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeff Chang.
