Suspect’s Fraud Scheme in Naples Collapses After Attempt To Impersonate Victim

Naples, Florida – A fraud investigation took an unexpected turn when a suspect tried to impersonate the victim in an effort to shut down the case, only to be confronted by detectives and taken into custody.

The incident began on November 29, 2025, when a victim reported to the Naples Police Department that her credit card had been stolen and used without her permission. She told officers she suspected a coworker, identified as 32-year-old Britany Rose Cruz Lopez.

Detectives with the Naples Police Cyber Crimes Unit launched an investigation. During that process, Lopez called the department pretending to be the victim and claimed she no longer wanted to pursue charges. Detectives followed up with the real victim, who confirmed she had not made the call and still wanted the case to move forward.

On December 3, detectives arranged to meet Lopez at a coffee shop. According to investigators, Lopez again posed as the victim, completed a sworn statement under the victim’s name, and signed the document while under oath. Detectives confronted her on the spot, and she admitted to stealing the credit card, making fraudulent purchases, and impersonating the victim in an attempt to derail the investigation.

Lopez, a convicted felon from unincorporated Collier County, was arrested and taken to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office Jail. She faces multiple charges, including Theft of a Credit Card, Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card under $100, False Report to a Law Enforcement Officer, and Criminal Use of Personal Identification Information.
