A 23-year-old fugitive, Jha’Kari Martin-Sugrin, was taken into custody by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday, December 10. Deputies located Martin-Sugrin at a residence in Eagle Lake and arrested him around 11:24 a.m. on a Hillsborough County warrant for fleeing to elude.
PCSO detectives responded in force due to Martin-Sugrin’s violent criminal history. In October 2024, he was arrested in Leon County for shooting his pregnant girlfriend, an incident that resulted in the deaths of both the victim and her unborn child. He was charged with two counts of manslaughter and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. After bonding out, he was placed on an ankle monitor while awaiting trial.
Lakeland Police provided information on Martin-Sugrin’s location, allowing detectives to move in quickly. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Sheriff’s Processing Center.
