Undersheriff Shawn Coarsey announcing the arrests

Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Former Officers Arrested in Separate Cases

Jacksonville Undersheriff Shawn Coarsey announced the arrests of two former JSO employees in separate investigations.

On December 30, 2025, 25-year-old Taaron Clayton, a probationary corrections officer, was arrested for battery after allegedly exposing himself and grabbing a victim’s hips. To protect the victim, no identifying details have been released. Clayton was immediately terminated following his arrest. His arrest marks the seventh JSO employee arrest in 2025.

On January 6, 2026, 46-year-old Nicholas Hicks, a former JSO police officer, was arrested for grand theft and official misconduct. Investigators determined that between June 12 and December 30, 2025, Hicks was paid more than $2,600 for over 40 secondary employment shifts at a hospital that he did not actually complete, totaling more than 52 hours of unworked time. Hicks resigned immediately after his arrest. This is the first JSO employee arrest in 2026.

Undersheriff Coarsey emphasized, “Nobody, including our officers and employees, is above the law.”
