GAINESVILLE, FL – Gainesville police arrested a 36-year-old woman Wednesday, January 7th, after a hit-and-run investigation led officers to a separate location where they found her actively inhaling nitrous oxide from a large canister.
Officers were initially called to investigate a hit-and-run crash in the 2800 block of SW Archer Road. During the course of that investigation, they developed information identifying the suspected driver and responded to another location to make contact.
When officers located the driver, identified as Daisy Eloise Mason, they observed her inhaling from a canister of Galaxy Gas, a form of nitrous oxide. Police say Mason refused repeated commands to put the canister down, forcing officers to physically remove it from her hands. After a brief struggle, she was taken into custody.
A search of Mason’s vehicle revealed several expelled Galaxy Gas canisters. She was transported to the Alachua County Jail and charged with leaving the scene of a crash, inhalation of a harmful substance, and resisting arrest without violence.
