ST. AUGUSTINE, FL – The City of St. Augustine has selected Sergeant Jon Marston to serve as the next chief of police, city officials announced Wednesday. Marston will assume the role on January 13, 2026, following the retirement of Police Chief Jennifer Michaux.
City Manager David Birchim said Marston stood out during the interview process for his leadership style and focus on accountability. Birchim added that the city is confident Marston will continue building a professional, well-trained police department with strong ties to the community.
Marston began his law enforcement career in 2008 and has spent his career with the St. Augustine Police Department. He has served as a sergeant in multiple divisions, including patrol, investigations, and training, and previously led the department’s Special Response Team.
In addition to his operational experience, Marston has played a key role in officer development. He has served as an instructor in defensive tactics, firearms, and emergency vehicle operations, and has worked as a Field Training Officer, helping guide new officers as they entered the department.
Outgoing Chief Jennifer Michaux praised Marston’s selection, saying he embodies the leadership and commitment to community safety expected by the department and residents. She expressed confidence that he will lead with integrity and accountability.
Marston holds a bachelor’s degree in Homeland Security from Vincennes University and is a graduate of the Florida Leadership Academy, Class 47. He has completed advanced leadership training in government supervision and command decision-making and is currently working toward earning his FBI LEEDA Trilogy Award.
