Young Man Arrested After Shooting and Shed Barricade in Walton County

WALTON COUNTY, FL – A 19-year-old DeFuniak Springs man is facing multiple felony charges after an alleged shooting incident and a brief barricade situation that ended peacefully Wednesday morning, according to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were first called to a home on Kings Lake Road on Tuesday, January 6, after a woman reported a shooting that had occurred earlier in the afternoon. The victim told investigators that she and Kaleb Freeman, 19, had been arguing after she asked him to move out of the residence.

According to the report, around 1:30 p.m., the victim was driving her SUV out of the driveway when Freeman allegedly fired a 9mm handgun at the vehicle. One round struck near the passenger-side taillight, passed through the SUV, and exited near the driver-side taillight. No injuries were reported.

Deputies collected evidence at the scene and began searching for Freeman.

On Wednesday morning, a Walton County Sheriff’s Office deputy received a tip that Freeman was hiding inside a red shed at his father’s property on Paradise Island Drive. When deputies made contact, Freeman initially refused to come out, prompting the response of the WCSO Crisis Negotiations Team.

After negotiations, Freeman surrendered without incident and was taken into custody.

He was transported to the Walton County Jail and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, shooting into an occupied dwelling, obstruction, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities say additional charges may be possible.
