Duval County Jury Convicts Man In Pipe Assault That Left Neighbor With Broken Arm

A Duval County jury has found 59-year-old Edward Buckhanon guilty of Felony Battery following a violent confrontation with his neighbor that left her seriously injured.

Florida State Attorney Melissa Nelson announced the verdict, noting that Buckhanon now faces up to five years in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Mark Borello will impose sentencing at a later date.

According to court records, the victim retired to Jacksonville in 2011 and soon began experiencing repeated harassment from Buckhanon, who lived next door. In an effort to limit contact, she installed a privacy fence between their properties.

On March 19, 2024, the victim and several neighbors were repairing the fence while Buckhanon was in his driveway working on a motorcycle. Prosecutors said Buckhanon became enraged, shouting racial slurs and profanity as the group worked. The situation escalated when Buckhanon went inside his home, retrieved a metal pipe, and returned to confront the victim.

Buckhanon swung the pipe at the victim’s head. She raised her arm to protect herself, and the impact fractured her arm in multiple places. The victim was transported by Jacksonville Fire and Rescue to a local hospital, where she underwent surgery for her injuries.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Michael Eckhart and Fabrizia Wade.

Prosecutors emphasized that the jury’s verdict reflects the seriousness of the attack and the lasting harm caused by the assault.
