JSO Releases Video, Details Of Officer-Involved Shooting After Armed Confrontation On Creeks Ridge Road

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has released preliminary details and video footage from an officer-involved shooting that occurred earlier this month on Creeks Ridge Road, resulting in the injury and arrest of a 68-year-old man.

The shooting occurred Jan. 5, 2026, and involved Ofero Manalon, who police said is a convicted felon prohibited from possessing firearms. Following the incident, Manalon was arrested on charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

According to investigators, the incident began when a resident on Creeks Ridge Road heard a gunshot near his home and believed his residence may have been struck. The resident went outside and observed a man later identified as Sherwin Manalon standing inside the garage of a nearby home holding a rifle. The resident then called police.

Officers arrived and tactically approached the residence. Police said the garage door was partially open and officers could see Sherwin Manalon inside with the rifle. Officers issued commands for him to drop the weapon and exit the garage, which he did. As officers were handcuffing Sherwin Manalon, his father, Ofero Manalon, appeared inside the garage.

Police said Ofero Manalon picked up the rifle and pointed it at officers. At that point, Officers G. Hernandez, M. Ross, and Q. Kincaid fired their department-issued handguns and rifles, striking Ofero Manalon, who retreated into the house.

The situation escalated into a barricaded suspect incident, prompting the response of the JSO SWAT Team. After several hours of a standoff, officers deployed gas inside the residence. Authorities said Ofero Manalon later moved to the back porch, where a trained police canine was used to take him into custody.

Paramedics who had been staged at the scene transported Manalon to a hospital. At the time of the video briefing release, police said he was in stable condition.

The State Attorney’s Office will conduct an independent review of the incident to determine the legality of the officers’ actions. JSO will then complete an internal review to assess whether the officers acted within departmental policy. Both reviews remain pending.
