Former Daytona Beach Officer Re-Arrested on New Drug Trafficking Charges

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Florida – A former Daytona Beach police officer is back behind bars after being taken into custody on additional felony drug trafficking charges just days after her initial arrest.

40-year-old Amber Lee Williamson, of Daytona Beach, was first arrested last week by Volusia County deputies on charges of trafficking fentanyl and methamphetamine. Despite the seriousness of the allegations, Circuit Judge Randell H. Rowe of the Seventh Judicial Circuit released Williamson on her own recognizance the following day.

Williamson began her law enforcement career with the Daytona Beach Police Department in 2009 and served for approximately 10 years. She is currently employed as a teacher at Richard Milburn Academy.

On Wednesday night, January 28, members of the East Volusia Narcotics Task Force and Volusia Sheriff’s Office Crime Suppression Team deputies arrested Williamson again, this time on additional felony drug warrants issued by the Port Orange Police Department. The new charges include two additional counts of trafficking in methamphetamine and another count of trafficking in fentanyl.

Williamson appeared before Judge Chris Miller, who ordered that she be held with no bond.

According to investigators, 53 grams of fentanyl were recovered during Williamson’s first arrest, an amount authorities say is enough to produce thousands of potentially lethal doses.

Volusia County Sheriff Michael J. Chitwood sharply criticized the earlier decision to release Williamson.

“If Judge Rowe feels that certain drug dealers should be released on their own recognizance and sent right back into our community the next day, it makes you wonder why our deputies and police are busting their asses to lock them up in the first place,” Chitwood said.

Williamson remains in custody as she faces the expanded list of trafficking charges.
