WALTON COUNTY, Fla. — A weekend road rage incident along U.S. 331 South has resulted in the arrest of a Bonifay man now facing seven felony weapons-related charges.
Around 1 p.m. on February 8, the Walton County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from motorists reporting that a man had pointed a firearm at them while traveling north near Sherwood Road in Defuniak Springs, FL.
The suspect vehicle was quickly located with assistance from the Office of the City Marshal and the DeFuniak Springs Police Department.
Deputies identified the driver as 33-year-old Blackie Alvarez of Bonifay. Authorities said Alvarez exited his white Ford Explorer, removed a black handgun from his waistband, and placed it on top of his vehicle. Deputies also found two metal knuckles in his pockets.
According to investigators, the victims were traveling north on U.S. 331 when Alvarez began speeding and honking at them. The victims told deputies that Alvarez sped around their vehicle, came to a complete stop in front of them, then exited his vehicle and pointed a firearm in their direction.
Alvarez declined to speak with deputies.
He was charged with two felony counts of false imprisonment, two felony counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, one felony count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, two counts of unlawful carry of a concealed weapon, and driving without a license.
Authorities also confirmed Alvarez had an outstanding warrant out of Bay County, Florida, for failure to pay child support.
Alvarez was issued a $235,000 bond and remains incarcerated at the time of release.
