Fanning Springs Man Arrested After Fleeing Traffic Stop; Deputies Seize Meth, Cocaine and Marijuana

GILCHRIST COUNTY, Fla. — A routine traffic stop in the Fanning Springs area escalated into a brief pursuit Saturday that ended with a local man behind bars and a significant amount of narcotics seized.

On February 7, 2026, deputies with the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a vehicle after observing a traffic violation. According to authorities, the driver failed to stop and attempted to flee before eventually pulling into a local business.

Deputies detained the driver, identified as 55-year-old Johnny Lee Coleman of Fanning Springs, without further incident.

During the investigation, deputies recovered what they described as a large quantity of illegal narcotics, including approximately 27.5 grams of methamphetamine, 25 grams of cocaine and 68.7 grams of marijuana.

Coleman was transported to the Gilchrist County Jail and charged with Fleeing to Elude Law Enforcement, Attempting to Destroy Evidence, Trafficking Methamphetamine, Possession of Cocaine and Possession of Marijuana over 20 grams.

The Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office said it remains committed to proactive enforcement efforts aimed at keeping illegal drugs out of the community.
