DUVAL COUNTY, Florida – A 32-year-old woman was arrested January 30 after license plate recognition technology alerted Neptune Beach police to a vehicle reported stolen out of West Virginia, authorities said.
At approximately 1:28 p.m., the automated system notified officers that the stolen vehicle was traveling within the department’s jurisdiction. Detectives began searching and quickly located the vehicle occupied at a Gate gas station in Atlantic Beach.
After the Communications Center confirmed the vehicle was stolen, patrol officers and detectives coordinated to safely detain the occupants without incident.
Police contacted the Wood County Sheriff’s Office in West Virginia, which confirmed that the detained driver, Haley Donner, was a suspect in the theft and that a warrant for Grand Larceny had been issued for her arrest.
Donner was arrested and booked into the Duval County Jail on charges of Theft of a Motor Vehicle valued at less than $100,000, a third-degree felony, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a misdemeanor.
Authorities credited coordinated efforts and technology for the swift recovery of the stolen vehicle.
