Jury Convicts Man in Armed Robbery and Shooting at Jacksonville Gaming Business

JACKSONVILLE, FL – A Duval County jury has found a man guilty of Attempted First-Degree Felony Murder and Armed Robbery in connection with a 2023 shooting during a robbery at an illegal gaming business.

State Attorney Melissa Nelson announced that the jury returned its verdict against Christopher McDaniel. He now faces up to life in Florida State Prison. The Honorable London Kite will formally sentence him at a later date.

According to evidence presented at trial, on August 4, 2023, McDaniel and a co-defendant planned and carried out an armed robbery at a gaming business on Herlong Road. The victim, a security guard stationed at the front door, was shot when the two men attempted to enter. Prosecutors said McDaniel fired at the victim and pushed him back, and the co-defendant also fired multiple rounds.

The victim was able to run for help while the two men robbed the business and fled in an SUV driven by another individual.

The co-defendant’s case remains pending.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office investigated the case. Assistant State Attorneys Crystal Ganpath-Freed and Fallon Hinkley prosecuted the trial.
