Tyreak Allen

Final Defendant Convicted in Deadly 2023 Bradenton Robbery Attempt, Gets Life Sentence

BRADENTON, Fla. — A Manatee County jury has convicted Tyreak Allen of first-degree felony murder and attempted robbery for his role in a 2023 robbery that left a man dead.

Florida State Attorney Ed Brodsky announced that Allen was found guilty following a jury trial held March 9–11, 2026, at the Manatee County Courthouse. He was sentenced immediately after the verdict to life in prison for felony murder and 20 years in prison for attempted robbery, to run concurrently.

Victim: James Jackson Jr.
Victim: James Jackson Jr.

The charges stem from an incident on January 23, 2023, when Allen and several accomplices attempted to rob 23-year-old James Jackson Jr. at a residence in the 100 block of 10th Avenue West in Bradenton.

According to prosecutors, eight armed suspects, wearing masks, arrived at the home intending to rob Jackson. The group demanded that he hand over a gold chain. When Jackson refused, several suspects opened fire, striking Jackson and two other men.

Investigators recovered more than 60 shell casings from the scene. Jackson was transported to a hospital but died from his injuries on January 31, 2023.

A critical piece of evidence in the case was cell phone video recorded at the scene, which captured much of the attempted robbery and helped investigators identify those involved.

Allen was arrested shortly after the shooting and was found in possession of a firearm that was later forensically linked to shell casings recovered at the scene.

During the initial response, a Bradenton Police K9 officer heard the gunfire and observed a vehicle fleeing the area. The vehicle later crashed near 13th Avenue West and 1st Street, where K9 Drax helped officers apprehend Allen.

Two additional suspects, Jerome Williams and Shamar Mobley, were later spotted by the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit and taken into custody. As the investigation continued, the Manatee Homicide Investigation Unit identified and arrested the remaining suspects.

Allen’s case was the final trial among the eight defendants involved in the attempted robbery.

Assistant State Attorney Suzanne O’Donnell, the lead prosecutor, said the other defendants had already accepted plea agreements.

“This guilty verdict and subsequent sentence are the result of this defendant’s refusal to accept responsibility after he was given extensive opportunities to do so,” O’Donnell said. “We are thankful that justice was served. This has been a heartbreaking experience for the victim’s family.”

Several of Allen’s co-defendants had previously resolved their cases:

  • Jerome Williams, 23, pleaded no contest to attempted robbery and constructive possession of a firearm and was sentenced to 35 years in prison.
  • Mekhi Booker, 21, pleaded no contest to second-degree murder with a firearm and attempted robbery and was sentenced to 15 years in prison on each charge, to run concurrently.
  • Dorian Brooks, 27, pleaded no contest to robbery with a weapon and was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
  • Shamar Mobley, 23, pleaded no contest to attempted robbery with a weapon and was sentenced to five years in prison with credit for time served.
  • Kevion Brooks, 25, pleaded guilty in 2024 to second-degree murder with a firearm and attempted robbery with a firearm and was sentenced to 25 years and 15 years, running concurrently.
  • Kobe Brooks, 22, pleaded no contest to grand theft and received 18 months of probation.

Prosecutors credited Bradenton Police Sgt. Andres Perez for his work identifying the suspects seen in the video evidence, which helped bring the case to a conclusion.
