Woman Arrested After Firing at Vehicle Following Juvenile Fight in Port Charlotte Park

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — A woman is in custody after deputies say she fired multiple rounds at a vehicle leaving a park following a fight involving juveniles.

Deputies responded around 4:30 p.m. on April 1, 2026, to reports of a disturbance with shots fired at Lake Betty Park, located at 2215 Conway Boulevard. Due to the nature of the incident, detectives with the Criminal Investigations Unit took over the case.

Investigators determined that three juvenile males were involved in an altercation, leaving one with minor injuries. During the incident, one of the juveniles contacted Lakeshia Taylor, 43, and told her what was happening.

According to detectives, Taylor drove to the park and saw several juveniles leaving in a vehicle while the injured juvenile remained on the ground. Authorities said Taylor then produced a firearm and fired at the vehicle as it attempted to leave the parking lot.

Deputies detained Taylor at the scene, and she admitted to firing three rounds, stating she intended to stop the vehicle from leaving.

Detectives later located the vehicle and found two bullet strikes—one on the driver’s side door and another on the rear hatch. Four people were inside the vehicle at the time of the shooting, and no injuries were reported.

“There were several poor decisions made in this situation, and we are fortunate that this did not become deadly,” said Sheriff Bill Prummell. “Discharging a firearm at an occupied vehicle is not only a dangerous crime, but to do it at a public park is even more reckless.”

Taylor was arrested and booked into the Charlotte County Jail on a charge of discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle. She is currently being held without bond.

The investigation remains ongoing.
