Jacksonville Woman Charged with 11 Felonies After Running Over Ducklings

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 64-year-old woman is facing multiple felony charges after authorities say she intentionally drove over a group of baby ducklings in a residential neighborhood.

Beverly Sasberry was arrested April 30 and charged with 11 counts of animal cruelty following an investigation by Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office District 4 patrol officers.

According to authorities, the incident occurred April 25 on Tempest Street on the city’s Westside. Witnesses reported seeing a red Honda Accord repeatedly drive over a group of ducklings, turning the vehicle around multiple times to strike them.

Investigators said the witnesses later confronted Sasberry, who allegedly admitted she intentionally killed the animals because they were making a mess in her yard.

The witnesses provided surveillance video of the incident to police, which helped officers identify Sasberry as the vehicle’s owner.

Officers located and conducted a traffic stop on Sasberry April 30. After interviewing her, she was taken into custody without incident.

Authorities said each count of animal cruelty is a felony offense. The case remains under investigation.

Officials are urging anyone who witnesses animal abuse to report it to law enforcement.
