MIDDLEBURG, Fla. — A 38-year-old man has been arrested more than a year after a homicide investigation began when a body was discovered inside a burning vehicle, according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
Kareem Robinson Johnson was taken into custody April 30 in connection with the death of Reginald Eldridge Gantt.
The case dates back to April 6, 2025, when deputies and Clay County Fire Rescue responded to a vehicle fire near N. Mimosa Avenue and County Road 218. Authorities said Gantt’s body was found inside the vehicle, and an autopsy later determined the death was a homicide.
Investigators said the case led them to Johnson, who was located, interviewed and arrested.
Johnson is charged with second-degree murder, second-degree arson and tampering with evidence. He is being held without bond in the Clay County Jail.
Officials said the investigation remains ongoing and are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Mosley at 904-264-6512 or submit an anonymous tip through SaferWatch or First Coast Crime Stoppers.
